Jalal ad-Din ar-Rumi (jah-LAHL ahd-DEEN ar-ROO-mee) A sage and extraordinary poet of thirteenth-century Persia, Rumi was one of earth's great teachers. He was a disciple of Shamus-i-Tabriz and author of the Masnavi. Rumi's poetry exemplifies the bond of love between the chela and the Master.
